If the third look is seeing yourself in the story, the fourth look is seeing where it might go in the next chapter. In 2007 we were walking on the trail beside the river, as was our habit, when Dorothy noticed an unfamiliar path and wondered where it went. We followed and discovered ourselves in a new neighbourhood with houses just being built. We could see ourselves living there, and so made some inquiries and looked at plans. By 2008 things were underway.
You know how these things go. There are lots of steps involved and lots of choices and arrangements to be made. All the while you have your eye on a picture that might exist if you make it happen. That is what I am calling the fourth look.
The fourth look takes us a decade or two into the future. Dorothy planned a future for us in a solid, convenient house on one floor with a finished basement for guests.
She had a vision and made it happen.
Then we got busy making memories.
The years roll on. By the time you are in the last decade, your vision spills over into the world your grandchildren will inhabit, which is sometimes a little scary.
