It's Not That Simple

Trust your gut.
Be rational; your gut can't be trusted.
What goes around comes around.
Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind.
You get what you deserve.
Children are punished for the sins of the parents.
Everything happens for a reason.
Not everything happens for a reason;
but if you have reasons you have a say in what happens next.
Trust and obey.
Pay attention to the evidence.
Good things come to those who believe.
Don't let your beliefs keep you from the truth.
Judge people by what they do, not what they say.
As you judge, you shall be judged.
The rain falls on the just and the unjust;
but some people will share an umbrella with a friend.
God doesn't play dice.
God plays dice; and people work at improving the odds.
Treat others as you would be treated.
Love one another.
Forgive endlessly.
People need people.

Et cetera.

Peace is not simple.
There is no social analogue to dahlias as bindweed inhibiter.
Ask for a nice simple solution to a problem and you get a bouquet of flowers and weeds.
The difference between flowers and weeds is an open question.

Try harder.

Never give up.

Never say never.

More Et Cetera.

  1. Don't we just love these, and for every pithy saying there's an opposite one just waiting at the next click.
    'It means what it says"
    Isn't that just so obvious?

    1. Right, Marion. What I want is not the right answer but a collection of stories from which to make a better answer. Thank you for recommending "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. We now have it as an audiobook read by the author. Beautiful.
