O Canada... If you have visited the parliament buildings in Ottawa, you have seen the Centennial Flame which was lit to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Canada in 1967. You may be unaware, as was I, of a plan in 2018 to replace the flame by LEDs. Lobbying by the gas industry was successful in stopping that conversion. Predictably, the gas industry objected to this change by appealing to aesthetics, cost and common-sense practicalities, while their intent was to prevent a symbolic gesture that would bias public opinion against natural gas. ...true patriot love...

They were right to be worried. Snuffing the Centennial Flame would draw public attention to alternative energy sources and conservation measures. ...with glowing hearts we see thee rise,
But a symbolic flame is hardly the issue. There is a real issue: stop burning fossil fuels or participate in the end of the world as we know it. "God keep our land..."
I took a fifth look and saw that if we don't care, God doesn't care.
...we stand on guard for thee.
