I might avoid the shade and love the light,
And squint against the sun and glaring sand,
Read ancient stories from a lamp-lit book,
And watch the world news go from bad to worse.
Or might I step uncertain into night
Wide eyes unseeing, reaching out a hand
To probe the fearful darkness, and then look
With awestruck wonder at a universe?
